Whoa! Do You Need a Break from Scrolling?

In my last blog post, I wrote about some of my burnout blindspots that were illuminated when I took a class on compassion fatigue in early 2022. Those vital insights arose when, socially and culturally, we were still attempting to find our way out of the distancing of the pandemic.

Some years later, while isolation is still a problem, I look around and see a current crisis area of burnout that's gone from bad to worse. It's ubiquitous and problematic. I see it, I feel it, and I'm like, Whoa.

I'm speaking of burnout on news and political trauma. Shock after bizarre shock. This, of course, is intimately woven with our also ubiquitous and problematic screen and app addictions. Our bodies' addictions to the stimulation of news, divisiveness, humans being shockingly awful to one another. For me, it's also burnout from the mental strain of trying to make sense of things that just don't make sense to me.

This is an imperative invitation to pause and have a look.

I'm excited to share more for all of us on the topic of hyper-connectivity, as I am with all of you who have been and are affected by its symptoms. My issues go all the way back to my first PC and Tetris!

For today, I'm simply encouraging us all to recognize this news/media/trauma-spin hyper-connectivity and its unsustainable nature. Let us be kind with ourselves in this examination. Let us consider that assaulting ourselves with news all the time - simply because it's available all the time - is not being kind to ourselves.

Might it be kind to yourself to take a creative and authentic class about burnout, while also fulfilling Ethics CE requirements (if you need them)?

Creative & Mindful Approaches to Burnout and Ethics is ready for you as a gentle pattern interrupt to the intensity of the moment.

Maybe next time you find yourself hooked on the scroll, you might pause and consider what else might be healthy and fun to do for at least a few minutes?

I'm a big fan of making lists, and they're a great place to start:

Playfully Curious List: 10 things I can do in lieu of automatic stressful media consumption. Keep 'em simple, and you're bound to be glad you did.
